Obama Patents “Change”, Limits Politician Use

Washington, DC – President-elect Obama has patented the words “Hope” and “Change” in an effort to stem their overuse in the political arena.

Political campaigning in Africa specifically prompted him to make the move towards privatizing the two words.
“It has come to the attention of Obama’s staff that many sub-Saharan countries are abusing these terms, and his administration will not stand for it,” said a member of the Obama transition team. “Change ™ is not when you do the same thing the guy before you did, just because you’re a different person. Change ™ is Change ™, and I think Barack has made that very clear.”
Some of the worst offenders of the Change ban are politicians in Kenya, Sudan and Ghana, who have all peddled the ideology to their masses. Ghana’s new ruling party, NDC, even went so far as to play a song called “Barack Obama” at its political rallies, despite protests from the songs creator, Blakk Rasta.
“I made that song because I support Obama”, said Blakk. I personally did not support any of Ghana’s candidates.”
Others on the continent agree that African politicians can confuse the masses with overuse of Hope™ and Change™. They believe it can have a damaging effect on would-be leaders.
“This is how dictators are born,” said one fitter. “They think because they are the newest ones to do a coup, that represents Change™.”
Politicians on the campaign trail may find themselves scrambling for new words to describe their political aspirations, if they want to avoid trouble with America’s new administration.
“I’m not saying we’re going to sue these nations,” said one Obama official, “but it’s fair to say that they may have funding for their Millennium Goals ‘disrupted’ if they continue to spew Hope ™ and Change ™ at their people.”
