Mother Pleads for Dreadlocks to Free Son’s Face

Minneapolis, MN - It can be an African mother’s worst nightmare: Sending her well groomed son or daughter off the America for an education, only to have them return home for the holidays with a tattoo, piercings, or far worse…Dreadlocks. Louis Defeamakpor made this very horror a reality for his mother.

“They’ve completely taken over his face,” wails Millicent Defeamakpor. “When he left Ghana after secondary school to go to university, he had a nice low cut, and I could see his face always. I don’t know who he is now!”

Louis declined to be interviewed for this article, sending only a written statement.

“My dreadlocks have done no harm to anyone,” he writes. “They are as much a part of me as my own skin… And no one should ask a man to remove his skin.”

His mother clearly disagrees.  “They are an abhorrention.”

She said she has spoken to the dreadlocks personally, even offering them food or weed to leave her son’s head, but they have refused. She gave this last tearful plea to the plats:

“I just want the dreadlocks to let my son know that I love him very much, and one day soon, I hope they will release his face from their dark, tangled grip.”

The locks had nothing to say in return to Millicent.
