1. Deport- When used in the context of “You currently face deportation”.

2. Denied-  As in your green card application has been denied

3. Reapply- When being told that “Your application is lost and you must reapply for citizenship. In the meantime, we must deport you.”

4. Invalid- As in “Your social security card/number is invalid without your Green card.”

5. Fee- This represents another 2 months of sweat and toil to save up and afford the application fee to replace the one that was previously lost or denied.

6. INS- Need we say more?

7. Taxes – Yes, abroad, they are mandatory.

8. Redundant/Lay-off – Africa man’s kryptonite.

9. Canceled- As in “Your flight has been canceled.” This can be especially damaging if you have bluffed to all your friends that you are traveling to abroad this very evening.

10. Finished- Particularly horrifying to hear at a party. As in “The plantain in finished”; or “The beer is finished”.
